Blue Paddle Bistro with Carol Ann Jones & Will Patton
Recently, a film crew from out west came to film a pilot for a series to be pitched to The Travel Channel and the Discovery Channel. The show is about independent singer/songwriters and the American venues where they perform and the community that supports these local businesses.
It was a wonderful night - great music and met some new friends!

Local favorite, Jon Sochin, accompanies carol Ann Jones & Will Patton during filming ...

Robert Wuagneux, left, relaxes with the film crew before the show.

Vermont Magazine: "There's a very simple, very natural thing about having breakfast or else dining out in South Hero; if you're going to do it, Blue Paddle Bistro is where you go. The bistro opened six years ago, but its owners, Mandy Hotchkiss (left) and Phoebe R. Bright, are no mere newcomers to the restaurant trade. The connection with canoes is explained by the fact that Mandy, besides being an accomplished restauranteur (as is Phoebe), at one time managed a wooden canoe manufacturing company ..."

CNN producer note
thepizzaman went to
a town called South Hero to cover what he says is the widespread effect
of the oil disaster. The Grand Isle County area in Vermont provided
assistance during Hurricane Katrina and wanted to help again in the wake
of the oil disaster, so they decided to send a giant card with their
signatures and well-wishes to Grand Isle, Louisiana.

Blue Paddle Bistro hosts Vermont Brownie Company v. Bobby Flay
Our local Vermont Brownie Company was chosen for a "Throwdown!" by
Bobby Flay ... and The Paddle was asked to be one of the program location sights! The nice folks from the Food Network visited us last fall to film. We would like to congratulate our friends, Katherine & Shawna, of the Vermont Brownie Company for being chosen by Bobby Flay to compete against him. (P.S. We are proud to serve their yummy brownies in our restaurant!)

In the fall of 2008, the Blue Paddle was hired to cater Karl Lagerfeld’s first Vermont photo shoot for Chanel. The shoot took place at his new home in Grand Isle. Deemed a success by the Chanel folks, The Paddle was asked, again, to cater another Lagerfeld shoot in March 2009. His second shoot featured the Shelburne Museum and Shelburne Farms. In addition, Chef Bright was requested to personally prepare dinner at the Willard Street Inn for three nights during their stay in Burlington.
Blurt – Seven Days Staff Blog: "Stalking Karl Lagerfeld"
So Monday morning I had some allergy testing, got a flu shot and received a phone call from one of my editors. Not the usual, "What were you thinking?" editorial call. No, from on high, I was told that I must make a pilgrimage to Grand Isle, perhaps the least notable of the Lake Champlain Islands. I didn't have to take the ferry to Plattsburgh (pretty much the only thing one can do on Grand Isle), so what was I supposed to do there? Stalk Karl Lagerfeld. Click here to read full posting!
Grand Isle Preps for Chanel Photo Shoot
High-fashion hysteria hit the Green Mountains in recent weeks with the news — first reported in Women’s Wear Daily — that Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld had purchased a house on a Lake Champlain island. Then a woman who had just sold her home on Grand Isle to an unnamed corporate buyer called to tell Seven Days she’d received mail addressed to Lagerfeld. Click to read full Seven Days article...
Fashion Legend Working in Vermont
... The restaurant hired to cater that shoot says Lagerfeld has been kind and gracious. Mandy Hotchkiss, owner of the Blue Paddle Bistro in South Hero, explains, "We're absolutely thrilled. It's the first time we've ever done something like this. And it's been quite an experience." Click here for full WCAX news story.
